What does it mean when the service engine light comes on in a 02 mustang?

I took mу son іn laws car out οf town аnd thе service thе engine light іѕ οn. Thе oil wаѕ јυѕt changed аnd I dіd check іt tοο. Dοеѕ anyone know whаt thіѕ іѕ? I want tο fix іt аnd I аm nοt sure whаt I аm fixing! Itѕ 8:30 іn thе morning аnd I dο nοt want tο call hіm thіѕ early w/o knowing whаt tο dο! Please hеlр!!!!
how many miles? sometimes they come on at a certain mileage to remind you to take it in for standard service. Go to an Auto Zone or Advance Auto, they will scan it and tell you what codes are showing up
when these “check engine”light comes on, it is telling you that the computer has detected something amiss. It mainly has to do with emissions, but not necessarily. it could mean that you gas cap is loose or a sensor is malfunctioning. go to an auto parts store and they may check it for you for free in hoping that you will buy the parts there. But, in some places they are getting away from this because the local garages are complaining that they are taking away from their business (this is occurring where I live)
Don’t drive it far with the engine light on. Bring it to an auto service place, they can check to see whats incorrect. It sounds like when they changed the oil, something in the cars computer wasn’t reset properly.
As noted by others, Autozone will scan the codes for free. You can get detailed information on what they mean in a renovate manual or at a ford forum.
Usually, the check engine light means a conundrum with an emissions related sensor or component. It may be a serious conundrum, it may not. If the car is running OK, its probably not a serious conundrum.
wait in anticipation of auto zone is open and take it in and they will run a scan on it and tell you whats incorrect, its free. it probably has something to do with the emissions, like the 02 sensor.
