Get him a set of headers for it. He will like you forever.

There are really a lot of ways you can go with this. At the outset, before you buy him something he DOESN’T WANT or ALREADY HAS, knowing his setup would help a fantastic deal.

The 5.0L Mustangs are a dream when it comes to Cost to Power ratio. Small money buys a lot of power.

A cheap and fantastic gift would certainly, as stated above be a set of Headers or other Exhaust parts (X Pipe or H Pipe, Catback system).

If he doesn’t already have one, a nice Shifter is a fantastic thought. Perhaps a Hurst or B&M Shifter. Like I said, it would be much nicer to know his setup. If you’d like to keep it secretive you could question a close friend who would be able to tell you, or simply act attracted some day and write down the info when he’s not looking. Be creative, just get the info. :)

I would recommend finding out what he already has done to the car and go from there. There are a lot of options for the 1990 GTs as far as performance goes, and some parts can get pretty pricey. Something simple would be a cold-air intake like this one:

I’m with Cole on the x-pipe exhaust thing. It’s relatively cheap and will be much appreciated.

If he likes to keep it nice looking you could get some tire shine, car wash soap, or a shammy. A K&N air filter is always excellent, but open up the air cleaner box to make sure he doesn’t already have one, because they’ll last for at least a decade. Oxygen sensors? A code booklover? Brake pads? Maybe you could offer to wash if for him at let him watch you work.
