dont you have to pull the headlight switch to turn the lights on? if so turn it either timer wise or counter timer wise to turn it on then off that may be your conundrum

Open each door , 1 at a time, and push in the bayonet switch, the doors may be shut but the switch is still on.

i have a 2000 ford ranger n i had that conundrum it was a sensor in the handel try that hook it up to a computer

Try your dash board dimmer switch. It has a setting on it that will activate the interior lights. It may have been set on that by accident
